The story of ZBROJOVKA BRNO

From 1947 till 1950 the Czech firm of Zbrojovka Brno (Brno arms factory) offered three 0 gauge tinplate sets. One consisted of a 2-4-2 steam outline loco with a six-wheeled tender and two bogie coaches. The loco and tender were 33 cm long, the coaches 28 cm. All items were spray-painted. Like Merkur, the Zbrojovka loco, tender and coaches were built using small nuts and bolts. Also like Merkur, Zbrojovka had its own design of coupling, which was not compatible with anything else. The trains operated on 3-rail 14-20 V AC. These sets were produced only in the livery seen in the pictures, but the shades differed slightly in different sets.

The second set consisted of an electric outline 0-4-0 loco and coach – the coach having the same body as the loco, but without a pantograph – also running on 3-rail 20 V AC. Thes sets were usually produced in red and blue, though green cars are also known.

The third set consisted of a smaller, clockwork steam loco with either two coaches or two goods wagons. The locos were produced in green or blue livery with multi-coloured details, passenger cars were finished in blue, red or green and freight cars came in a fairly varied range of colours. These clockwork sets were later continued by Igra.
