Wyandotte
Description
Wyandotte Toys, a celebrated American toy brand, is known for its broad range of attractive products majorly consisting of toy guns, mechanical toys, and especially their line of pressed steel toys. These toys, extending from representations of vehicles, airplanes, and boats, held a prominent place in many children's lives during the early to mid 20th century. An iconic part of Americana, these vintage playthings echo an era of simplistic joy and wholesome innocence.
Wyandotte Toys began its journey in Wyandotte, Michigan, during the year 1920, under the umbrella of the All Metal Products Company founded by George Stallings and William F. Schmidt. Renowned for using scrap material left over from car production to manufacture their toys, Wyandotte became synonymous with innovation and resourcefulness. Known for creating high-quality, durable toys with intricate designs, Wyandotte Toys particularly stood out during the Great Depression. Even during this dark time, they continued to bring joy to children with their affordable and long-lasting toys. Intriguingly, the brand shifted gears during World War II to manufacture toy walkie-talkies for children to 'play at war'. Later on, the company shifted ownership to Louis Marx & Company in 1955 and ceased to exist under its original name.
