The story of Wittrock
H. Wittrock was established in Copenhagen in 1935 by Helmuth Wittrock, beginning in the radio industry. During the Second World War, shortages led the company to diversify into other goods, including toys. Mechanical toys became an important line, and in 1949 the firm introduced a series of H0 trains and accessories under a new globe-and-train emblem. A contemporary 1951 trade article described Wittrock as a Danish source of clockwork cars and trains, with products made from tinplate and other materials, including plastic.
The railway range included locomotives, rolling stock and accessories. Wittrock also made toy cars in tinplate and plastic during the 1950s. Production of model trains ceased in 1960. In the late 1950s, the company moved from making many toys itself toward importing foreign toy brands for the Danish market.
