Topper Toys
Description
Topper Toys was an innovative toy manufacturer known for its diverse range of products that captured the imagination of children and collectors alike. The company was renowned for developing novel creations, including memorable lines in miniature models, dolls, games, and electronic toys. Perhaps they were most recognized for their Johnny Lightning die-cast cars, a direct competitor to Mattel's Hot Wheels, making Topper Toys a beloved name in the toy car collector circles.
Topper Toys was launched with great enthusiasm in 196 as a subsidiary of the Delaware-based Henry O. Havemeyer Company. The brainchild of Henry O. Havemeyer, Jr, a commercial artist, Topper Toys swiftly found its footing in the ever-competitive toy industry. Topper Toys was known for its ingenious marketing campaigns, including the usage of television commercials to elevate its brand image. Despite its innovative approach, the company couldn't withstand the economic downturn of the 197s and ceased operations in 1972. An interesting fact, the iconic Johnny Lightning toy cars were named after a character in a TV show titled 'Johnny Lightning' which was planned but never produced!
