Tinkertoys
Description
Tinkertoys is a classic toy brand, renowned for its distinct construction sets. These sets are primarily composed of wooden spools and rods, encouraging creativity, and sparking the imaginations of generations of children. Tinkertoys encourage kids to tinker around, hence the name, by building anything from simple structures to expansive contraptions.
Tinkertoys was born from the inventive mind of Charles Pajeau, an Illinois stonemason, in 1914. He carefully observed children meticulously stack sticks and empty spools of thread and got inspired to bring Tinkertoys to life. While being a staple in the American toy scene for over a hundred fascinating years, Tinkertoys has also survived global events like the Great Depression and both World Wars. By the growing demand for plastic toys in the 199s, the wooden components of Tinkertoys were replaced. An interesting fact is that the customized Tinkertoys set was actually licensed by NASA to help astronauts learn about construction in microgravity.
