The story of Stabo
Hans Kolbe & Co registered the Stabo trademark in 1963 to sell technical toys under that name. Based in Hildesheim, the company entered the model-racing market in the 1960s with Stabo Car, at roughly the same time as Carrera. Its 1968 catalogue included Formula 2 racing cars. The company later left the racing-toy market and concentrated on telephony, adding radio equipment in 1975. Stabo remained part of Hans Kolbe & Co until it became independent in May 1989. In the 1980s, production of CB radios moved from Hildesheim to China for cost reasons. In 1997, French radio manufacturer Groupe President Electronics acquired a majority stake in Stabo.
