The story of SMCF
SMCF, short for Super Modèles de Chemins de Fer, was a French maker of HO scale model railway equipment. A specialist model railway reference dates the brand from 1948 and names Robert Guérin and René Collard as its founders. The surviving catalogue record begins with a catalogue from about 1950 and continues with editions from 1954, 1956 and 1959, followed by a 1960 price list.
The documented range included locomotives, passenger coaches and goods wagons. Its catalogue record includes assembly instructions for plastic coaches and wagons, while the specialist reference reports that Hornby acquired SMCF in 1961 and incorporated some of its models into the Hornby-acHO range.
