Remco
Description
Remco Industries is an American toy company known for creating a variety of novel playthings that spanned several genres and categories. From popular action figures to imaginative play sets, Remcos wide array of products appealed to the childhood fascination of the extraordinary and the adventurous. The company's motto, "Every Boy Wants a Remco Toy...And So Do Girls!" is a testament to their wide-reaching products, famously designed to give children a lift to their make-believe world.
Founded in 1949 by two cousins, Isaac (Ike) Heller and Saul Robbins, Remco became a major player in the toy market in a short span of time. Their early offerings were musical instruments and walkie-talkies, but they soon found their niche in action figures, tying with popular television shows of the time. Remco became renowned for its licensed toys, including Star Trek, Universal Monsters, and The Beatles Yellow Submarine. Interesting to note is that in 1964 Remco lost a patent infringement suit to Anjar Co. regarding their product, "Tippy Toes Dolls". Despite experiencing a few ups and downs and two bankruptcies, by 1983, Remco rebounded and found success again with their line of action war toys.
