The story of Rateau
Rateau is documented as an artisan subcontractor to JEP, making Pullman coaches for the company's HO-scale railway range. JEP was the toy brand of the Société Industrielle de Ferblanterie and had made a range of toys since the early twentieth century. From the 1930s, its products included transport toys such as trains, cars, mechanical boats and a submarine. JEP introduced HO-scale electric trains in 1949; plastic began to appear in that range from 1952. Its toy production ended in 1968, according to the Musée du Jouet Pierre Pinel.
