Orkin
Description
Orkin is an iconic vintage toy brand known for its range of durable and high-quality miniature models. Primarily relying on wind-up mechanisms, the tiny masterpieces of the brand boasted detailed design and rich colour palettes, which made them a great hit among kids and collectors. Specialising in creating cars, buses, and fire engines among other forms of transportation, Orkin managed to incorporate a playful spirit and sense of realism into each of its products.
Orkin was brought to life in 1929 in Chicago by two brothers, David and Leo Orkin (known as the Orkin Brothers), who had a shared passion for toys. They named the brand Craftoy, later to be popularly known as Orkin. They smartly utilised the ongoing Great Depression by producing affordable toys for the common man, and that too with a quality that was hard to match back then. The brand touched pinnacle fame with their "Streamline" series in the 193s as it captured the essence of the then popular Art Deco style. Despite numerous ups and downs, their dedication to creating fine models kept the brand alive until 1962, serving nostalgia and inspiration for vintage enthusiasts all around the globe.
