The story of Maxwell
Maxwell Co. of Calcutta, India, made die-cast miniature cars under the Maxwell Toys name. Its range included a Volvo P1800 and a Vauxhall Guildsman. The cars were sold in boxes printed for both models: opposite sides depicted the two different cars, while the short sides carried Maxwell branding and the model designation. A collector reference describes more than one version of the Volvo miniature, with variations in wheels and base plates, and reports examples appearing at toy fairs in the late 1980s. The production date of that model is not known. A surviving catalogue page places Maxwell Toys in India in approximately the 1970s.
