GMP
GMP (Georgia Marketing & Promotions) made collectible die-cast vehicle models in the United States. Its ranges included 1:64-scale racing transporters, 1:18 winged sprint cars, vintage dirt cars and muscle cars, including Buick, Nova and Pontiac models. The business developed from Peachstate Motorsports, whose first Harry Gant/Mac Tools transporter replicas arrived in 1992. The story of GMP
In 1991, Tom Long was working as a manufacturer's representative in industrial fasteners and assembly equipment while pursuing his interest in racing. As NASCAR collectibles expanded, he sought agreements with Busch Series teams to produce 1:64-scale transporter replicas. An initial supply arrangement with Ertl was rescinded, and in early 1992 Long arranged production with RCI for a new venture, Peachstate Motorsports. Its first shipment, Harry Gant/Mac Tools transporter replicas, arrived in October 1992; the first run of 10,000 sold out.
Peachstate later opened its own moulds in China with assistance from Dick Nelson. The range expanded to 1:18 winged sprint cars, vintage dirt cars and muscle cars, including Buick, Nova and Pontiac models. In December 1992, Long established Georgia Marketing & Promotions as a wholesale division. His brother Mark built a dealer network. Peachstate was later blended into Georgia Marketing & Promotions, and the business became known as GMP. The history describes production across three factories and more than forty mould families, with some models containing nearly 400 parts. It places the company in Winder, Georgia.
