Fornaro
Julio Fornaro was a Uruguayan toy maker based in Montevideo, known for lithographed tinplate toys. He began production in 1948, using a factory previously operated by his father to make lithographed FlyTox insect-repellent pumps. During the 1950s and 1960s, Fornaro became Uruguay’s largest toy producer. His surviving product range included toy airplanes, alongside other tinplate toys.

The story of Fornaro
Julio Fornaro began making lithographed tinplate toys in Montevideo in 1948. His father had owned a factory that produced lithographed FlyTox insect-repellent pumps, providing an existing tinplate manufacturing background. Fornaro’s toy business grew during the following decade: a specialist toy reference describes him as Uruguay’s largest toy producer during the 1950s and 1960s. The documented range included toy airplanes as well as other tinplate toys. Production ceased in the early 1970s.
