Firma Borske strojiny (Bora)
Description
Producer of S and 0 gauge train set
After the end of the Second World War, the “ Firma Borske strojiny” (Bor machine factory) in Cheska Lipa in what is now the Czech Republic began manufacturing a train set in Z0 gauge (24 mm, so nearly S gauge) under the name Bora. Apparently the tools of the by then defunct company of Berges, which had sometime before 1939 attempted to produce a tinplate train, were utilised. The train set consisted of a 4-6-2 streamlined steam locomotive with clockwork drive, based on a real loco of the Czech railways, and a bogie express coach. In 1947 power was changed from clockwork to an electric motor (AC, 3-rail) and the loco from a 4-6-2 to a 4-6-0. The gauge was also changed from Z0 to 0. The train was sold as a set with transformer and an oval of track. The pressings of loco and coach remained unaltered, however, so in 0 gauge it looked a bit underscale. Apperently production ended in 1950. A special feature of the electric motor was that the brush holder could be rotated and changing from forward to reverse was done by turning the brush holder.
