The story of Fama
Matter of Kölliken introduced the FAMA Alpenbahn at the Nuremberg Toy Fair more than 40 years before the 2025 publication of Swisscrocodile’s account. The line was built in 0m gauge, with 22.5 mm track and a 1:45 scale. Its first locomotive model represented an HGm 4/4 of the Furka-Oberalp-Bahn; passenger and freight cars were also offered. The locomotives were designed to negotiate steep gradients. Other vehicles were announced but did not enter production under FAMA.
After two years, FAMA was sold to Georg Utz AG of Bremgarten, which expanded the range and exported it. The line later passed through further sales, investments and involvement by Kiss, Golden Train and Roco. Production was eventually discontinued, and the models disappeared from retailers’ shelves.
