Eheim

Engineer Gunther Eheim founded the company in 1949, initially concentrating on technical toys and bus models. In 1956 EHEIM moved from Esslingen to Deizisau. Its toy production included electrically operated accessories for model railways.

In 1962 the company developed a magnetically coupled centrifugal pump for a model fountain. Combining the pump with a cleaning container led to the EHEIM aquarium suction filter, and the first EHEIM filter system entered series production in 1963. By 1970 the company had stopped its technical-toy production branch. It continued to develop aquarium products: 100,000 EHEIM aquarium filters were in use worldwide by 1971, and a garden-pond product line followed in 1974. The official history also records the introduction of the professionel filter series in 1994 and the ecco in 1999. In 2004 EHEIM, mp and JÄGER were brought together in the EHEIM Aquaristik Group; since 2012, products and services have been offered under the EHEIM brand.
