The story of Delta
Delta Plastik’s history began in 1974, when two enthusiasts of engines, radio control and model cars met; one worked for a company that processed and thermoformed plastic. They soon considered making bodies and accessories for model cars. At the time, ABS plastic was replacing fibreglass in model-car production, while polycarbonate bodies were arriving from the United States.
In 1976, the first Italian polycarbonate model-car body was produced: a Lotus Formula 1 body, published by the Florentine magazine Modellistica in 1977. Delta Plastik s.n.c. was formed in January 1979 with the arrival of a third partner, a toy representative. The company worked exclusively in model-making until 1983, when two founding members left for different pursuits.
Its model-making products included car bodies and accessories, tyres, carrying cases, radio-control cases and accessories for model aircraft. The company also developed products in lighting, silverware, food packaging, blister packaging, technical plastics and minibike components.
