Bar Knight
Description
Scottish producer of 0 gauge trains
Founded in Glasgow in 1910 and still active as an engineering firm, Bar Knight Precision Engineers Ltd is one of the longest established independent Engineering companies based in Scotland. It was formed as the manufacturing arm of the Clyde Model Dockyard with its first products being scale model locomotives and steam engines. The name Bar Knight comes from Barr and McKnight, the latter being the leading partner in the company and managing director of the Clyde Model Dockyard. From 1915 they produced simple 0 gauge live steam and clockwork locos to fill the gap left by the cessation of German imports due to the First World War. From circa 1924 the firm moved away from steam and clockwork locos to 4 Volt 3-rail electric ones, although a small 0-4-0 live steam loco was made until the end of toy train production sometime in the mid 1930s. The company also made some lithographed bogie coaches and four wheel wagons.
