The story of Baby-Trains
Baby-Trains was founded in Paris in 1952 by Jacques Perrin as a specialist model-railway shop. Located at 5 rue du Petit-Pont, it sold new and second-hand railway models, parts and accessories. Its catalogues were substantial reference works: surviving issues are recorded for 1956, 1960, 1964, 1965, 1967, 1968 and 1970.
Perrin also made models in small numbers. His first listed creation was an H0m model of the Arpajonnais railway, followed by French railcars and locomotive models. These included bronze kits for railcars such as the FNC, Picasso and ABJ, as well as locomotive bodies and models representing types including PLM 130, CC 1100 and 2D2 Waterman. The kits required considerable assembly work. The shop closed in the early 1980s. Baby-Trains was therefore a Paris retailer with limited model production, distinct from a mass-market train manufacturer.
