It seems that Wiking is the biggest car manufacturer worldwide. Ofcourse, in scale models. It all started around 1947/48 with cars in scale 1:90. In those days the cars where not exactly meant for decoration of H0/00 gauge toy train layouts. Actually, they would be great to play in the sand as it was advertised. One or more of those cars would easily be taken in a boy’s trouser pocket. Those early experiments with plastic cars in scale would lead to the current position on the market of Wiking. Many boys, not only in Germany, have fond memories.
But, those plastic cars were not really the start with cars for Wiking. Already in the 1930s, during a rather short period, several Army Models (Wehrmacht Modelle) were issued in metal. They were in fact more or less scale models (1:200) and could be used for making dioramas together with the metal airplanes, which Wiking manufactured before. Obviously those models were not only meant to play with. They could be used also for “educational” purposes, i.e. military strategic purposes.
KallisToys is striving to show all kind of toys, irrespective their nature or origin. We will use those recently acquired models to recreate a “military diorama”. Pictures will be shown if the diorama has been created. If you do have any other Wiking cars and/or airplanes fitting for such a diorama we would welcome to receive your message with offer. Any paper documentation, such as catalogues or flyers, are also well received. We will upload those onto the KallisToys Catalogue Archive.
