Those miniature trains made by Märklin for H0/00 gauge have conquered the world. Who has not heard of those trains. In many countries around the world model trains in this size (approximately scale 1:87) were sold and wanted by boys (in most cases) and their fathers. At least all the ads in those days view happy fathers playing with their boys together. I still remember that time myself. What a joy was that: undivided attention and help of your parents. What about todays joint leisure time between father and boys (or girls)? Those electric trains were not so bad at all. You could learn a lot by constructing your layout yourself: be an architect, an electrician, a logistic operator, a sculptor etc. etc.
The electric loco shown here is a model that resembles in some way the German E18 electric locomotive, although it misses one of its large drive wheels. Nevertheless the looks are quite great. Such a miniature locomotive was at the days of its relaunch (just after WW II) not really affordable for everyone. Survivors need to be checked today for being “attacked” by zincpest. Many models have tiny cracks which eventually lead to a full destruction of the model. There is no way to stop this chemical process. Unfortunately during the first years after WW II the quality of diecast metal was poor. You may feel lucky if you own an intact early postwar model.
We are interested in which country around the world are Märklin trains for H0/00 gauge are spread. Just send a message to info@kallistoys.com with the country where you have received your Märklin train.
