Description
Postwar Austrian producer of 0 gauge trains.
The Austrian firm “Austria Vereinigte Emaillierwerke, Lampen- und Metallwarenfabriken AG” (Austria United Enamel Works, Lamp and Metal Goods Factories) produced 0 gauge trains from 1948-1954 under the name Ditmar (one of the constituent firms of this conglomerate and originally a producer of oil, gas and electric lamps and later also film projectors).
The range comprised of two steam-outline locos, an 0-4-0 and a 2-6-0, available in clockwork and 18 V AC electric, a railcar, also in clockwork and electric, and a number of four-wheel and bogie passenger and freight cars, together with track, points, crossings, buffer stops, signals, a level crossing, lamps and a transformer.
Early items had droplink couplings, which from 1949-1950 were replaced by an automatic coupling system, for which Ditmar also developed a special uncoupling rail.
