Albedo

Albedo was a German maker of mostly 1:87 scale model trucks. Its range included tractor units, trucks with trailers and some passenger vehicles. The company began by decorating models made by other manufacturers, including Herpa, and later produced its own models using acquired moulds. Albedo’s printed liveries and detailed commercial-vehicle miniatures were aimed at the European model-truck market.

The story of Albedo

Albedo-Forkel GmbH operated in Heilsbronn, Bavaria, and made the Albedo range of HO-scale model trucks. In the 1980s the company began by applying printed liveries to models made by other manufacturers, including Herpa. It later moved into producing its own models, using moulds acquired from other model makers. The range was chiefly European commercial vehicles, with tractor units and combinations with trailers; it also included some passenger vehicles. Detailed printed company and transport liveries formed a prominent part of the range.

Albedo’s production continued into the early 2000s, according to a specialist account that says the company stopped production around that time. Another reference reports that Albedo-Forkel GmbH went bankrupt in 2006. These dates describe different reported endpoints, and the available accounts do not resolve whether production continued until the bankruptcy.
