The story of Vauxhall

Vauxhall’s origins lie in an engineering works established in London in 1857. The works initially made pumps and marine engines. In 1903 it produced its first motor car, a 5hp four-seater. The company moved car production to Luton in 1905, where it continued to expand its motor-vehicle business.

Vauxhall’s range developed from early sporting cars into a broader selection of passenger cars and commercial vehicles. The British Motor Museum’s collection includes the 1926 30-98, the 1949 Wyvern, the 1959 Velox, several generations of Victor, and later models such as the Astra, alongside a 1968 Bedford CA van. These vehicles document successive stages of the company’s production through the twentieth century and into the 2010s. The Vauxhall heritage collection was transferred to the British Motor Museum in 2021.
