Maker record

StromBecker

Strombeck-Becker was an American toy and model maker based in Moline, Illinois. Its products included wooden trains, other wooden toys and model kits; its model-making range later extended to plastic kits and slot-car racing products. Dowst Manufacturing acquired Strombeck-Becker’s hobby division in 1961 and marketed slot-car sets under the Strombecker name. The name therefore spans both the original Moline maker and a later Chicago toy company.

The story of StromBecker

StromBecker's journey began in 1876 with The Dowst Brothers Company, originally producing type set and linotype machines' parts. By the 193s, Theodore Dowst, the son of one of the founders, conceived and introduced a range of miniature toys under the brand name StromBecker. Being innovative, StromBecker started producing plastic models by 195s to stay in the game against the rising popularity of plastic toys, but eventually concluded its operations in 1963 after being sold to Testor.
