Probably in 1949 Paul M. Preiser started his production of handcarved and handpainted wooden figures. In this year a first add appeared in the German magazine Miniaturbahnen (Miba). During the 1950s mainly handmade, wooden miniatures (figures, dioramas, carts, carriages) were manufactured. At the end of the 1950s plastic found its way into production. In the beginning all plastic miniatures were still handpainted in Germany by so-called "home workers". This lasted until the 1990s [to be checked]. Production and painting were transferred to Mauritius.

Preiser's story started in 1946 in Germany and is akin to a fascinating journey through time. The brand was initiated by brothers Hermann and Paul Preiser, who exhibited keen interest and prowess in crafting miniature models. The company majorly arose right after the World War II period, reflecting a strong resurgence and rekindling the joy in many households during a tumultuous time. An interesting fact about Preiser is its unique ability to resist the immense competition in the toy industry during the late 20th century. Rather than succumbing to economic pressure, Preiser continued to evolve, integrating technology with tradition to create pieces of art that are admired globally.
