Fischer
fischertechnik is a German maker of modular construction toys introduced commercially in 1966. Its plastic building blocks use a mortise-and-tenon joint and accept additional pieces on all six sides, allowing models in mechanics, statics, pneumatics and electronics. The range includes toy construction kits, learning sets for schools, robotics kits and assembled simulation models for training and demonstration. The system was developed in 1965 as a Christmas gift for customers of the fischer fastening business, and its first factory was built in Salzstetten in 1966.

The story of Fischer
Artur Fischer’s company developed fischertechnik in 1965 as a Christmas gift for customers in its fastening business. The first 1,000 sets were donated to the Aktion Sorgenkind charity. The modular plastic blocks used a mortise-and-tenon connection; additional pieces could be attached on all six sides. In 1966, fischertechnik was introduced commercially and the first factory was built in Salzstetten in the Black Forest.
The range broadened from construction play into technical education. In 1968, a set first introduced electromechanics, and in 1970 the programme expanded with learning construction sets for schools. Pneumatics entered the system in 1981, followed by industrial models in 1982 and computing in 1985. Later developments included solar kits, a robotics line and education products for schools. The current offer includes toy building sets, school learning sets and assembled functional and simulation models used for training, planning and demonstration. Products continue to be manufactured in Germany.
