The story of Bing
Gebrüder Bing was founded in Nuremberg in 1863 by brothers Ignaz and Adolf Bing to sell toys and kitchenware. The firm initially produced metal kitchen utensils, then specialized in tin and mechanical toys, including trains, boats and cars. Its range included clockwork toys and working models of steam engines and railways. Around 1910, Bing operated within Nuremberg’s extensive metal toy industry and was described as the world’s largest toy manufacturer of its day.
The company changed its name in 1895 to Nürnberger Metall- und Lackierwarenfabrik vorm. Bing AG and in 1919 to Bing Werke. In 1932, departments were sold off: Karl Bub took over train production, while Fleischmann took over the toy boat business. Bing was in liquidation in 1932 and went out of business in 1933.
