Althof, Bergmann & Co. was a New York toy maker. Founded as a firm by the Bergmann brothers in 1856, it initially imported toys before beginning its own production. Its hand-painted tin toys included floor trains, boats, bell toys and horse-drawn carriages. The range also included mechanical hoop toys. Althof joined the firm’s management in 1867, after its establishment.

In 1856, a creative spark ignited in the city of New York, birthing Althof Bergmann. The beloved brand was conceptualised and brought to life by two men - William Althof and Christian Bergmann. They pioneered a collection of novelties that were artistic and simultaneously paid homage to their European roots. Over time, Althof Bergmann became a paragon in the vernacular of vintage toys. However, their journey was not infinite; in 1877, the toy factory was closed, but not forgotten. An interesting fact - during the Civil War, the duo momentarily paused toy production to manufacture percussion caps, contributing to the war effort in their own unique way. Intriguing, isn't it?
